Let the Spirit Move You!

Sister Martha Ann was the heart of our efforts at The Spirit Center. In her gentle, loving (and persistent!) way, Sister Martha Ann worked tirelessly to secure grants and donors to ensure the continued success of our mission - to provide a place for the spiritual, educational and social development for the youth of south Texas.
Our ministry would not be where it is today without the loving and dedicated support of Sister Martha Ann.

In tribute to this remarkable lady who gave so much to so many, we have started a memorial fund in her honor. If you would like to join with our community in supporting the future of The Spirit Center in her name, we invite you to consider making a gift to the Sister Martha Ann Snapka Memorial Fund. Your support is deeply appreciated as we celebrate the life of our dear friend, mentor and leader of The Spirit Center through this memorial fund that will help further our mission in this community.

About

The Congregation of Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament came to Texas in 1852 and for over 150 years has served the people of south Texas in a variety of educational and spiritual ministries. In 1964, the Sisters received the Bluntzer homestead as a bequest. In 2002, the Spirit Center obtained 501(c)(3) status and was included in the Diocese of Corpus Christi section in the Official Catholic Directory. In 2003, the Sisters established a Board of Directors, composed of Sisters and laypersons with delegated responsibilities to develop The Spirit Center.

Our mission is to provide a place for the spiritual, educational and social development of youth in south Texas. To accomplish this, we rent our facilities to churches, schools and other groups seeking a place to host a true retreat experience. We also are beginning to host our own series of programming to enhance the lives of young people and their families across the Coastal Bend region. We are truly unique in that there is no other similar retreat facility in our region that is aimed at serving primarily youth. Our rural location offers the invaluable opportunity for young people to experience a retreat close to home, but miles away from ordinary. The groups that use the Center have opportunities to experience holistic growth and enrichment that will positively impact their lives and the lives of their families.
